Like other linear switches, the linear optical switches are smooth and have no tactile “bump” during a keypress.
The linear optical switches feel fairly similar to other linear mechanical switches - they have an average force of 45 grams, so they still have some weight to them even if they don’t require physical contact to actuate. Not incredible, mind you, but better than I expected considering my general preference for extra-loud clicky mechanical switches. Typing on the DeathStalker V2 Pro was pleasantly surprising. Our review unit came with the linear option. Razer’s optical switches come in two variations, linear (red) and clicky (purple). No physical contact means speedier actuation, made even speedier - Razer claims - when combined with the DeathStalker V2 Pro’s low-profile and shorter key travel. The DeathStalker V2 Pro features Razer’s low-profile optical switches, which are actuated via light (instead of traditional contact-based actuation). I suggest you reach out to Razer using the method I did earlier, as they will only provide firmware that matches your serial number. There is risk associated to flashing firmware, as always. I must say I can't guarantee this will fix your specific issue, and could make it worse or completely brick the device. Here is a link to the firmware hosted in my Google Drive: I'm overjoyed by this outcome, this keyboard has been sitting in a drawer for YEARS. Immediately it started downloading the firmware to the device, and within a few minutes the keyboard was glowing the same purple colour it was when it died. I ran the software and waited for it to show up "no detected devices", and then plugged the keyboard in. At this point I reached out to Razer Support via the stickied support post, and they provided me a new firmware file that I had been totally unable to find elsewhere.Ī firmware actually titled "BlackWidow Chroma_FirmwareUpdater_v1.03.00.exe" The device would show up as "RazerBootloader" in device manager.īascailly this just went from a dead keyboard, to a keyboard that couldn't "boot" it's firmware - very different.Īfter hours of trying all the methods I found online (all of which were for the BlackWidow Ultimate), I had no success. Last night, I decided to break out the old BlackWidow and found that installing some drivers for the Razer Bootloader which I found here: The issue I had, after trying to flash some firmware to fix a repeating key issue, was that they keyboard would just show as "Unknown Device" in the device manager. There is vast amounts of information out there about fixing this issue for a BlackWidow Ultimate, but none of it applied to me, and none of it fixed my issue. I am creating this post so that it may help others in the same situation.
I spent literal years trying to fix my Razer Blackwidow Chroma and finally, just fixed it with the help of Razer Support.
